Overview
When sharing an individual store location, you may notice that the shareable link opens Google Maps instead of your Store Locator page. This is expected behavior and is designed for navigation and directions.
If you want to keep customers on your website and link them to the Store Locator page with a specific store already selected, you’ll need to use the Query URL feature.
This article explains how to do that.
Why the Shareable Link Opens Google Maps
The Share Location option is intended for external use. As a result:
It opens the selected store directly in Google Maps
It does not link back to your Store Locator page
Customers leave your website experience
This is helpful for directions, but not ideal if you want users to browse or interact with your Store Locator.
Solution: Use Store Locator Query URLs
Query URLs allow you to link directly to your Store Locator page while automatically focusing on a specific store location.
Step 1: Enable Query URLs
Open your Store Locator Admin Dashboard
Go to Settings
Enable Query URLs
Save your changes
Once enabled, your Store Locator page can accept URL parameters to load specific locations.
Step 2: Use Your Main Store Locator URL
Your main Store Locator URL is displayed at the top of your dashboard and is the same URL used when adding the locator to your site’s navigation.
Example:
https://rpstorelocator.app/pages/store-locator
This URL opens the full Store Locator experience, allowing customers to:
Search by address
Filter locations
Interact with the map and store list
Step 3: Link to a Specific Store Location
To open the Store Locator and focus on a specific store, add the bh-sl-address parameter to the URL.
Format:
https://rpstorelocator.app/pages/store-locator?bh-sl-address=YOUR_STORE_ADDRESS
Example:
https://rpstorelocator.app/pages/store-locator?bh-sl-address=123 Main Street, New York, NY
What Happens When Customers Click This Link
The Store Locator page loads
The map centers on the provided address
The matching store location is automatically selected
When to Use Each Link Type
Goal | Best Option |
Share directions | Shareable Google Maps link |
Keep users on your site | Main Store Locator URL |
Highlight a specific store | Query URL with |
