Configure Multilingual Store Locator Experiences


Overview

The RP Promap Translation & Languages system allows merchants to create localized experiences for international customers. You can configure custom translations for your storefront interface, search tools, store details, opening hours, and product finder content.

This guide walks through:

  • Adding a new language

  • Editing translations

  • Managing locale codes

  • Customizing storefront text

  • Translating “Where to Buy” buttons

  • Understanding language presets

  • Publishing multilingual experiences

Accessing Translation Settings

Navigate to:

Dashboard → Settings → Languages

Note: The Existing Translation (Default) is preserved and still allows for single language translations as well as a fall back if no language is found in the languages tab.

From this section, you can:

  • View all configured languages

  • Add new language translations

  • Edit existing translations

  • Delete unused languages

  • Monitor translation completion progress


Languages Dashboard

The Languages dashboard provides a centralized overview of all configured translation sets.

Dashboard Features

Language List

Displays all active translation profiles.

Locale Code Tracking

Each language includes its locale code for storefront matching.

Translation Completion Status

Quickly identify whether all translation fields have been completed.

Example:

  • 57 / 57 fields completed

Quick Actions

Each language supports:

  • Edit

  • Delete


Adding a New Language

Step 1 — Open Languages

Go to:

Dashboard → Settings → Languages

Select:

+ Add Language


Step 2 — Select a Language Preset

Choose a supported language from the dropdown list. We currently offer 21 options if you do not see the language option you need please reach out to support and we will add the locale file so you can quickly add and update.

Examples of some of the most common languages used:

  • French (France)

  • German (Germany)

  • Portuguese (Brazil)

  • Portuguese (Portugal)

  • Spanish (Spain)

The preset automatically loads default translations.


Step 3 — Save Language Configuration

Once selected, RP Promap automatically prepares the language profile.

You can then: Select preset → Review default values → Review/edit if needed → Click Save to complete.

  • Review translations

  • Edit storefront text

  • Customize buttons

  • Update search labels

  • Configure localized messaging


Editing Language Translations

After creating a language profile, select:

Edit

This opens the complete translation editor.


Understanding Locale Codes

Each language profile includes a locale code.

Examples:

Why Locale Codes Matter

Locale codes allow RP Promap to:

  • Match Shopify storefront languages

  • Detect regional translations

  • Load the correct interface automatically

  • Serve localized URLs

Example storefront paths:

  • /fr/

  • /de/

  • /pt-br/


Reset to Preset

The Reset to Preset option restores all translation fields using the default built-in language values.

When to Use It

Use Reset to Preset when:

  • You want to restore default translations

  • You imported incorrect text

  • You want to restart localization

  • Your storefront messaging changed

Important Note

Resetting will overwrite current translation values for that language.


Search Box Translation Settings

The Search Box section controls storefront search experience labels.

Editable Search Fields

Page Title

Controls the main heading displayed on the locator page.

Example:

“Trouver nos magasins”

Search Location Text

Controls current-location button text.

Example:

“Position actuelle”

Enter a Location Text

Controls search placeholder text.

Example:

“Saisir un lieu”

Search Radius Text

Customize distance radius labels.

Search Button Text

Modify the search CTA.


Map Translation Settings

Translate all map-related interface elements.

Examples include:

  • Directions

  • Distance labels

  • Zoom controls

  • Map helper text

  • Nearby results labels


Opening Hours Translation Settings

Customize opening-hours labels and messaging.

Examples:

  • Open now

  • Closed

  • Opening Hours

  • Holiday hours

  • Weekend schedules


Store Details Translation Settings

Translate store information sections.

Examples:

  • Contact details

  • Address labels

  • Services

  • Amenities

  • Pickup messaging


Product Finder Translation Settings

The Product Finder section localizes the product-discovery experience.

You can translate:

  • Product Finder headings

  • Product filters

  • Product detail labels

  • Search prompts

  • Availability text

  • Product CTAs


Find Online Translation Settings

The Find Online section supports multilingual online purchase experiences.

Examples include:

  • Find Online button labels

  • Retailer messaging

  • Availability messaging

  • Online partner CTAs


Where to Buy Button Integration

RP Promap integrates directly into product pages with localized CTA buttons.

Examples include:

  • Where to Buy

  • Find Online

These buttons automatically display translated text based on the visitor’s active storefront language.


Storefront Translation Behavior

Visitors browsing localized storefront paths automatically receive matching RP Promap translations.

Example

A visitor using:

/fr/

will automatically see:

  • French locator text

  • French search labels

  • French store details

  • French CTA buttons

If no matching translation exists, the system falls back to the default Translation tab values.


Translation Completion Tracking

Each language profile tracks translation completion.

Example:

57 / 57

This helps ensure:

  • No missing fields

  • Consistent customer experience

  • Full localization coverage


Best Practices

Use Native Translations

Avoid direct machine translations when possible.

Match Shopify Locale Structure

Ensure locale codes align with your storefront configuration.

Test Every Language

Preview:

  • Search functionality

  • Button text

  • Product finder

  • Store details

  • Mobile layouts

Keep CTA Text Short

Shorter translations improve responsiveness across devices.


Recommended Workflow

  1. Configure default Translation tab

  2. Add a new language

  3. Load preset translations

  4. Customize storefront text

  5. Save changes

  6. Preview localized storefront

  7. Validate mobile experience

  8. Publish storefront language


Troubleshooting

Language Not Appearing

Check:

  • Shopify language publishing

  • Locale code formatting

  • Saved translation profile

Incorrect Translation Showing

Verify:

  • Storefront URL locale

  • Active language configuration

  • Translation field values

Missing CTA Text

Ensure:

  • Product Finder translations are completed

  • Find Online translations are configured

  • Button labels are populated

How many languages can I add?

You can configure multiple language profiles depending on your storefront requirements.


Can I customize preset translations?

Yes. All preset text is fully editable.


What happens if a translation is incomplete?

The system may fall back to the default Translation tab values.
