RP Local Pickup & Delivery — Free Store Pickup with Carrier-Calculated Shipping

Overview
If your store uses Carrier-Calculated Shipping, you can configure a free ($0) pickup option that appears automatically at checkout.
This allows customers to choose in-store pickup as a shipping option without paying a delivery fee.
When properly configured, Shopify will display a Store Pickup — Free rate during checkout whenever pickup is available for the order.
Prerequisites
Before configuring pickup rates, confirm the following requirements are met.
Shopify Plan Requirements
Your store must support Carrier-Calculated Shipping.
Supported plans include:
Shopify Advanced
Shopify Plus
Shopify Growth (Annual billing only)
Growth plans paid monthly do not include Carrier-Calculated Shipping.
App Requirements
Ensure the following are configured in RP Local Pickup & Delivery:
The app is installed and active
At least one pickup location is created
Pickup is enabled for that location
How Carrier-Calculated Pickup Works
When a customer reaches checkout, Shopify sends a rate request to the RP Local Pickup & Delivery app.
The app then:
Checks whether pickup locations are available for the order
Determines whether the location supports pickup
Returns a $0 Store Pickup rate to Shopify
If pickup is available, customers will see Store Pickup — Free as a selectable shipping method.
Setup Guide
Follow these steps to configure a free pickup rate.
Step 1 — Confirm your Shopify plan supports Carrier-Calculated Shipping
Open Shopify Admin
Go to Settings → Plan
Confirm your store is on one of the following plans:
Plan | Carrier Calculated Shipping |
Advanced | Included |
Plus | Included |
Growth (Annual billing) | Supported |
Growth (Monthly billing) | Not supported |
If your store is on Basic or monthly Growth, you will need to:
Upgrade your Shopify plan, or
Switch to annual billing
If you are already on Advanced or Plus but carrier rates are unavailable, contact Shopify Support to enable the feature.
Step 2 — Enable Carrier-Calculated Shipping
Open Shopify Admin
Navigate to Settings → Shipping and delivery
Under Shipping, select Manage rates
Locate the Carrier and app rates section
Confirm carrier rates are enabled
If they are not enabled:
Click Add rate
Select Use carrier or app to calculate rates
Step 3 — Enable the RP Local Pickup carrier service
The RP Local Pickup & Delivery app registers its carrier service automatically when connected.
To verify or re-register it:
Open RP Local Pickup & Delivery
Go to Settings → Shipping
Confirm Carrier Service is enabled
Click Save
If it was previously disabled, saving will re-register the carrier service with Shopify.
If you see the error “Carrier Calculated Shipping must be enabled”, your Shopify plan does not support this feature.
Step 4 — Configure pickup locations
Pickup must be enabled on each location where it will be offered.
Open RP Local Pickup & Delivery
Go to Locations
Select a location
Enable Allow pickup at this location
Set Pickup rate to $0.00
If left blank, the pickup rate defaults to free.
Repeat this process for each pickup location.
Step 5 — Test pickup at checkout
To confirm the configuration works:
Add a product to your cart
Proceed to Checkout
Reach the Shipping step
You should see:
Store Pickup — Free
Selecting this option will display your available pickup locations.
Troubleshooting
Issue | Likely Cause | Solution |
Pickup rate does not appear | Carrier service not registered | Toggle Carrier Service off and on in app settings |
Error enabling carrier service | Shopify plan unsupported | Upgrade to Advanced or Plus |
Pickup rate shows but locations are empty | Pickup not enabled for location | Enable pickup in Locations settings |
Pickup shows incorrect price | Location pickup rate configured | Set pickup rate to $0.00 |
Limitations & Notes
Carrier-Calculated Shipping requires Shopify Advanced, Plus, or Growth (Annual)
Basic and monthly Growth plans cannot use carrier-calculated pickup rates
If the option is missing on a supported plan, Shopify Support may need to enable it
The checkout label “Store Pickup” is set by the app and cannot currently be customized
Pickup may not appear if the customer address is outside the configured service area
