Last Updated: 2026

Overview

The Google Maps API Test Tool is a built-in diagnostic feature designed to instantly validate your Google Maps setup.

Instead of manually checking multiple APIs, billing settings, and configurations, this tool runs a comprehensive automated test and clearly shows what’s working—and what needs attention.

👉 This feature is available in:

  • RP Promap

  • RP Local Pickup & Delivery

Why This Matters

Google API misconfigurations are one of the most common causes of:

  • Maps not loading

  • Locations not appearing

  • Address lookup failures

  • Checkout delivery issues

The Test Tool eliminates guesswork by:

  • ✅ Detecting setup issues instantly

  • ✅ Confirming all required APIs are enabled

  • ✅ Verifying billing configuration

  • ✅ Preventing downtime and support escalations

How to Use the Test Tool

  1. Go to: App → Settings → Google Maps API

  2. Enter your Google Maps API Key

  3. Click “Run Test”

  4. Review the results:

    • ✅ Green = Working correctly

    • ⚠️ Warning = Needs attention

    • ❌ Error = Action required

For RP Local Pickup and Delivery

  1. Go to: App → Settings → General → Use Google Maps API (ensure this is toggled on)

Note: The Google API Integration is optional for RP Local Pickup and Delivery

  2. Enter your Google Maps API Key

  3. Click “Run Test”

  4. Review the results:

    • ✅ Green = Working correctly

    • ⚠️ Warning = Needs attention

    • ❌ Error = Action required

What the Test Checks

The tool validates all required services used across both apps:

1. Billing

  • Ensures your Google Cloud billing is active

  • Required for all Google Maps services

2. Geocoding API

  • Converts addresses → coordinates

  • Used for:

    • Store locator mapping (RP Promap)

    • Delivery address validation (Local Pickup & Delivery)

3. Maps JavaScript API

  • Loads and renders the interactive map

  • Core requirement for:

    • Store locator UI

    • Map display on storefront

4. Places API

  • Enables:

    • Address autocomplete

    • Location search suggestions

  • Critical for improving user experience at checkout and locator search

5. Distance Matrix API

  • Calculates distances between locations

  • Used for:

    • Delivery radius logic

    • Nearest store calculations

6. Geolocation API

  • Detects user location (browser/device-based)

  • Used for:

    • “Find nearest location” features

7. Places API (New)

  • Updated version of Places services

  • Ensures compatibility with newer Google features

Test Result Example

When everything is configured correctly, you’ll see:

“Google Maps integration is fully configured. All required services are enabled and working correctly.”

Each service will show:

  • Status: Passed / Failed

  • Description: What’s working or what’s missing

Built for Ease of Use

This tool is designed to be:

  • Avoid back-and-forth troubleshooting

  • Standardize API validation process

Best Practices

  • Always run the test after adding or updating an API key

  • Ensure billing is enabled in Google Cloud
