Build a Searchable Directory with RP ProMap Tags and Profile Links
Use RP ProMap to create more than a traditional store locator. You can build a searchable directory for stylists, dealers, stockists, service providers, instructors, installers, professionals, events, or other location-based profiles using existing RP ProMap features.
This setup uses:
Locations for each profile or provider
Tags for services, specialties, categories, or location types
Location search and distance calculations
Profile links that open a page on your Shopify store or another website
Booking, appointment, registration, or contact links
Important: This is a manual setup. If the profile information is also maintained in Shopify Metaobjects, another database, or an external booking system, changes are not automatically synchronized with RP ProMap. You must update and publish the corresponding RP ProMap location whenever relevant information changes.
Example customer journey
Find a Provider → search by location or distance → filter by service or category → view the provider → open the full profile → book or contact
Before you begin
Collect the following information for each directory entry:
Public display name
Public address, service location, or approved approximate location
City, state or region, postal code, and country
Profile photo or logo
Short public description
Public profile URL
Booking, appointment, registration, or contact URL
Services, specialties, categories, and location type
Publication status
Privacy reminder: Only publish an address that the provider has approved for public display. If an exact home or service address should remain private, use an approved business address, service area, or approximate location.
Step 1 Install and open RP ProMap
Sign in to your Shopify admin.
Approve the requested permissions.
Open RP ProMap from Shopify Admin.
Confirm that you can access Store Locations and Settings.
Step 2 Complete the basic map setup
Open Settings in RP ProMap.
Add and save your Google Maps API key.
Enable the Store Locator.
Choose the public URL for your locator.
Set the default map location.
Configure the maximum results, search radius, default radius, and miles or kilometers.
Enable automatic location detection if desired. Visitors can still enter a city, address, or postal code when browser location access is unavailable.
Save your settings.
For the complete initial setup, see How to Set Up the Store Locator.
Step 3 Plan your tags
Tags allow visitors to filter directory results. Decide on the approved tag names before entering locations, and use the same spelling and capitalization everywhere.
Example tag groups
Services: Braiding, Installation, Consultations, Repairs, Delivery
Specialties: Boho Braids, Crochet Hair, Feed-In Braids
Location type: Home Provider, Salon, Retail Store, Mobile Service
Availability: Accepting New Clients, Appointments Available, Walk-Ins
Products or collections: Add only the product-related tags customers genuinely need to search by
Avoid creating duplicate variations such as Mobile Service, mobile service, and Mobile Services. These may appear as separate filters.
Step 4 Add your first directory location
Open Store Locations.
Select Add Store Location.
Enter the provider, location, event, or profile name.
Enter the complete public address or approved service location.
Review the map pin and move it if necessary.
Add an image and a short public description.
Add the public profile page as the primary website or profile link available in the location editor.
Add the booking, appointment, registration, or contact URL in the available custom link or location-detail field.
Assign all applicable tags.
Save or create the location.
Select Publish so the new or updated location appears on the storefront.
Recommended link setup
Primary link label: View Profile
Primary link: The provider's full public profile page
Secondary link label: Book Appointment, Register, Contact, or Shop Online
Secondary link: The corresponding provider-specific destination
If your selected RP ProMap layout displays only one primary link, use it for View Profile. Place the booking or contact button on the full profile page. If your location description or detail fields support an additional clickable link, you may also add the direct booking URL there.
For additional profile-page options, see Custom Store Detail Pages or Deep Links with RP ProMap.
Step 5 Display tags as filters
Open Settings.
Go to Store Search Settings.
Locate Display All Tags and Select Display Tags.
Enable Display All Tags if every location tag should appear to customers.
For a cleaner search experience, use Select Display Tags and choose only the approved customer-facing tags.
Save and publish the settings.
Open the live locator and confirm that each tag returns the expected locations.

Step 6 Add the remaining locations
For a small directory, add locations individually. For a larger initial setup, prepare and import a ProMap CSV. Test a small sample before importing the complete file.
For later changes affecting several records, use Bulk Actions to add or remove tags, enable or disable locations, or apply other supported bulk changes. Remember to publish afterward.
Step 7 Add the directory to your storefront
Confirm that the Store Locator is enabled.
Copy the locator URL shown in RP ProMap.
In Shopify Admin, go to Content, then Menus.
Open the menu where the directory should appear.
Add a menu item such as Find a Provider, Find a Stylist, Store Locator, or Find a Dealer.
Paste the RP ProMap locator URL and save the menu.
Test the page on desktop and mobile.
If you want to place the locator inside an existing Shopify page, see How to Add the Store Locator Map to an Existing Page.
Test before launch
Search by city, address, and postal code.
Confirm that nearby locations appear according to your configured radius.
Test every customer-facing tag.
Test combinations of service and location-type tags.
Open every profile link.
Open every booking, appointment, registration, or contact link.
Verify every map pin.
Confirm that disabled locations do not appear publicly.
Test the complete experience on a mobile device.
Keep external profiles and RP ProMap updated
If another system remains your main profile database, use the following manual update process:
Review profiles that were created or changed since the previous check.
Match each profile to its RP ProMap location using a profile URL, external ID, or tracking spreadsheet.
Update the corresponding RP ProMap name, address, image, description, links, tags, or status.
Publish the ProMap changes.
Test any changed profile or booking links.
Record the ProMap update date and the person who completed the update.
Common updates
New approved profile: Create a location, add tags and links, verify the pin, and publish.
Address changed: Update the address, verify the pin and distance search, and publish.
Services changed: Add or remove the approved tags and publish.
Profile or booking URL changed: Replace the link, publish, and test it.
Temporarily unavailable: Disable the location and publish.
Permanently removed: Disable the location first. Delete it only after confirming it is no longer needed.
Tips for reliable manual maintenance
Treat one system as the master record.
Use a stable profile URL or external identifier to match records instead of relying only on names.
Maintain an approved tag list.
Publish after every manual change unless Auto-Publish is intentionally enabled.
Test links after any handle, domain, or booking-provider change.
Keep a dated export before a large CSV replacement or bulk change.
Assign an owner and a regular schedule for manual synchronization.
