Stop Customers From Checking Out Without a Required Date
Use this guide when the date is marked as required but some customers can still reach checkout without selecting one.
Why this can happen
The required-date check normally runs through the app's cart experience. A button that sends a customer directly to checkout may skip the cart and its validation.
1. Confirm required selection
Open RP Local Delivery Date settings and confirm that delivery or pickup selection is required for the method you are testing. Save any change and retest in a private window.
2. Test every checkout path
Try to reach checkout without choosing a date through each option shown on your store:
The standard cart checkout button.
Buy Now or dynamic checkout on a product page.
Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, or another express button.
A cart drawer or sticky checkout button.
An upsell, bundle, subscription, or third-party checkout app.
3. Identify and control the bypass
If only one button bypasses the date requirement, configure that feature to send customers through the cart. If it cannot do that, consider disabling or hiding its pre-cart button. Express payment methods can normally remain available later in Shopify checkout.
Important: Test changes with both delivery and pickup, on desktop and mobile. Do not remove payment methods from Shopify merely to remove a product-page or cart-page shortcut.
If an order already arrived without a date
Record the order number, time, payment method, and order timeline. This information helps identify whether the customer used the normal cart or a direct-to-checkout path.
Still need help?
